Description
Our client is currently looking for two Tube Makers to oversee and operate tube mills to maintain consistent, high-quality production.
Requirements
- 5+ years’ experience in a steel industry mill operation role.
- Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Proficient in mechanical functions and efficient, accurate mill changes.
- Strong product knowledge, including geometry and materials.
- English proficiency (verbal, reading, writing).
- Ability to supervise team members and make operational decisions.
- Skilled in diagnosing and resolving mill setup/adjustment issues.
- Target-driven without compromising quality.
Responsibilities
- Review schedules and prepare forming rolls ahead of each run.
- Perform roll changes and initial mill settings; engage weld and fine-tune for final sizing.
- Inspect impeder ferrite rods and fit correct impeder size.
- Ensure scarfing tools are sound and weld beads blend smoothly.
- Meet production targets with minimal scrap/defects.
- Complete post-shift reports on output, scrap and non-compliance.
- Swiftly set up the mill to meet specifications and client requirements.
- Operate and monitor mills to produce top-grade tubes.

Experience & Requirements
- Completed Red Seal trade test as a Millwright, with at least 5 or more years’ experience
- Strong mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic knowledge
- Able to read and interpret electrical drawings
- Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety standards
- Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Must reside in or around the East Rand
- Position is to start in January 2026
Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs to electrical and mechanical machinery
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues on the production line
- Conduct preventive maintenance to minimize downtime and ensure operational efficiency
- Install, test, and commission new equipment and machinery
- Read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and equipment manuals
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities
- Adhere to safety regulations and maintain a clean, hazard-free work environment
