Description:
Our client a leader in the steel and tube industry is looking to hire a senior buyer with international and local buying experience, the ideal candidate must have dealt directly with steel mills internationally and locally.
Qualifications:
- Grad 12 / equivalent
- National diploma or degree relevant to Procurement will be an advantage
Requirements:
- 10 or more years international experience as steel and tube buyer
- Computer literate: Proficient in MS Office Suite and an ERP System preferably Syspro
- Bilingual in English and Afrikaans
- Own Transport
- Able to travel overseas when required
Experience:
- Group Inventory monitoring and measurement through provided means.
- Ensuring correct inventory levels for the branches.
- Liaising and negotiating in a good manner with customers and suppliers ensuring the best possible relationship with both local and international suppliers.
- Visit suppliers, locally and internationally.
- Negotiating orders within limits of authority.
- Assist branches in price negotiations.
- Measuring and updating group pricing tables.
- Management and tracking of all steel import orders as and when imports occur.
- Inform management of possible new suppliers related to your product expertise.
- Stay abreast of all supplier products and offers.
- Review and make suggestions to management in relation to overall stockholding, stock mix and possible deals.
- Review and comment on steel price trends and forecasts.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure all group buying schedules are completed regularly as required, approved by management, and distributed in a good manner and format to customers/suppliers including international RFQ’s
- Ensure stock levels of all related products are kept at group approved levels using approved means
- Notify management of market related changes including price changes and any changes that can influence the company
- Negotiate with external parties on behalf of the company as and when required by management
- Plan and visit suppliers locally and internationally as and when required, assessing the supply efficiencies, quality and capabilities of suppliers whilst representing the company
- Assist branches during contract negotiations with understanding price, product, supply restraints and any other points to ensure the companies risk is mitigated
- Ensure all purchase orders are planned and issued in detail, stipulating group requirements i.e. mass of bundles, size of packs and boxes, marking of material and all governmental requirements are followed where necessary, i.e. certificate requirements, mill certs in order and general compliancy
- Ensure correct pricing (Costing) and price maintenance
- Ensure correct tracking of movements of all products including imports, goods at processing facilities and internal bulk movements
- Ensure all related products are kept in good order as required for the type of material
- Liaise within the group departments: finance, creditors, debtors, product managers and sales
