Overview
Our client, a supplier of hard-wearing and high-strength structural steel, is seeking a dynamic Sales Representative to resell quenched and tempered steel (full plate) and value-add solutions such as cut-to-size, bending, and related processing. You will develop and grow business with new and existing customers across Gauteng, North West and Mpumalanga.
Ideal profile:
Senior steel sales (7–10+ years) + strong Q&T plate product understanding + comfortable reading drawings and quoting + confident cold calling/closing + exposure to mining/yellow goods/cement/agri customers.
Experience & Requirements
- Grade 12.
- Minimum 7–10 years’ steel industry experience, with a strong sales focus.
- In-depth knowledge of steel products and their applications (Q&T plate advantageous).
- Computer literate.
- Bilingual in English and Afrikaans.
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings.
- Strong understanding of the mining, yellow goods, cement, and agricultural sectors.
- Valid driver’s license (company car provided).
- Able to work independently, close deals, and cold call for new business.
- Stable work record with contactable references.
- Consistently meet and exceed sales targets.
- Develop and maintain strong customer relationships.
- Monitor market trends and competitor activity.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Grow and maintain a customer base for quenched and tempered plate and value-add processing.
- Prospect and win new business through cold calling, site visits and technical consultations.
- Advise customers on suitable grades/specs and applications for hard-wearing/high-strength steel solutions.
- Interpret drawings and compile accurate quotations for cut-to-size, bending and related services.
- Manage the full sales cycle: leads → quoting → negotiation → closing → after-sales support.
- Maintain strong relationships across key sectors (mining, yellow goods, cement, agricultural).
- Track activity, pipeline and targets; report on performance and market intelligence.
