Overview
We’re looking for a driven sales professional with a special steels background to grow and service a technical customer base (fabricators, engineering shops, OEMs). You’ll handle enquiries, quote accurately, manage orders end-to-end, and build strong repeat relationships.
Ideal profile:
3+ years special steels sales + strong EN8/bright bar knowledge + confident quoting and GP discipline + understands machining/certification/traceability + organised admin and follow-through.
Experience & Requirements
- 3+ years proven sales experience in special steels (must-have).
- Solid product knowledge: EN8, Bright Bar, rounds/squares/flats, lengths, tolerances; bonus for 4140, 1050/1045, tool steels, and hollow bar.
- Confident with quoting, GP/markup, and order administration.
- Comfortable discussing machining, cutting, straightness, hardness, and certification needs.
- Computer literate (ERP/CRM, Excel).
- Driver’s licence and own car (for external role / site visits, if required).
Duties & Responsibilities
- Manage inbound enquiries and proactively develop new business (internal or field-based).
- Prepare accurate quotes for EN8, Bright Bar, 4140, 1045, tool steels and related grades, sizes and tolerances.
- Read and interpret basic drawings/specifications to ensure correct material selection and machining allowances.
- Negotiate pricing and lead times, process orders, and coordinate with warehouse/dispatch.
- Maintain CRM pipeline, forecast sales, and report on GP%, hit rate, and activity KPIs.
- Resolve customer queries (mill/test certificates, heat numbers, traceability, returns).
- For external activity: plan weekly call cycles, conduct site visits, and complete visit reports.
