Overview
Busy steel service centres are always on the lookout for experienced Draughtspersons to join their dynamic drawing offices. The ideal candidate will have exposure to laser, profile and plasma cutting, and will be confident with AutoCAD and Sigmanest to produce accurate drawings, developments and nesting for production.
Ideal profile:
3–5 years steel service centre draughting + strong AutoCAD + confident Sigmanest nesting + accurate developments/flat patterns + calm under pressure and deadline-driven.
Experience & Requirements
- Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience as a draughtsperson in a steel service centre.
- Completed draughting certificate / diploma.
- Computer literate (MS Office Word/Excel).
- AutoCAD & Sigmanest are essential.
- Technically minded and accurate.
- Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Own transport.
- Stable work record with contactable references.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Draw parts for cutting on laser, plasma and profile machines.
- Create chamfer, drilling, bending and rolling drawings for the workshop.
- Quote accurately according to drawings and assist with cutting selections.
- Develop flat drawings for cones and bent parts.
- Nest parts for machines using Sigmanest; switch nestings to different machines when necessary.
- Maintain cost-effective estimations and support internal sales with technical inputs.
- Check estimates for representatives and advise on costings, nestings and feasibility where required.
- Liaise with customers on specific projects; develop parts as required by customers.
- Prepare material take-offs from GA drawings, customer DXF files and electronic media.
- Handle customer queries/complaints and support resolution.
- Expedite orders to completion with workshop management.
- Support improved quality, material certificate issues and traceability concerns.
