Overview
A leading steel tube and pipe manufacturing company in Germiston is looking for an experienced Production Manager to lead a high-volume production facility and drive operational excellence across the full manufacturing process.
This is a senior role suited to a strong production leader with solid experience in tube manufacturing, factory operations, people management, safety, quality, cost control and continuous improvement.
The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing daily production operations, ensuring output meets required quality and volume targets, managing production schedules and budgets, monitoring performance metrics such as OEE, downtime and production yields, and driving process improvements to increase efficiency, reduce waste and improve product quality.
Ideal profile:
A senior Production Manager from a tube manufacturing background with strong factory leadership, OEE and production performance management, lean manufacturing, safety, quality, cost control and continuous improvement experience.
Minimum Requirements
- Matric / Grade 12 essential.
- Degree or Diploma in Engineering, Production Management or a related field would be advantageous.
- 8–10 years’ experience in tube manufacturing.
- Minimum 5 years’ senior factory or production management experience from a tubing background.
- Proven experience leading high-volume manufacturing operations.
- Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, maintenance best practices and production systems.
- Sound understanding of safety, health and quality standards, including OHSA and ISO.
- Computer literate with MS Office and production management systems experience.
- Strong leadership, communication, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to influence teams, drive accountability and promote a culture of safety and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Oversee daily production facility operations.
- Ensure production targets, quality standards and operational budgets are met.
- Monitor OEE, downtime, production yields and overall performance.
- Coordinate maintenance activities to reduce unplanned downtime.
- Lead, mentor and motivate production and support teams.
- Drive staff training, development and performance management.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, quality and audit requirements.
- Manage factory budgets, operational costs, resources and material waste.
- Lead continuous improvement, automation, lean manufacturing and process optimisation initiatives.
- Support long-term operational strategies, factory upgrades and capital projects.
