Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced, hands-on Production Manager to lead and control daily manufacturing operations across steel lockers, office furniture and custom steel products.

This role requires a practical, old-school production leader who understands fabrication from the shop floor up. The ideal candidate must be comfortable working directly with workshop teams, resolving production issues, driving deadlines and ensuring quality manufacturing output.

Ideal profile:

A hands-on Production Manager or Factory Manager with strong steel/light fabrication experience, shop floor leadership, technical drawing interpretation, production planning and practical knowledge of cutting, bending, welding, assembly and spray painting.

Required Experience and Skills

  • Proven experience as a Production Manager or Factory Manager in a steel or light fabrication environment.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience is required.
  • Strong practical knowledge of steel cutting, including laser, plasma, guillotine and saws.
  • Strong practical knowledge of bending and press brake operations.
  • Welding knowledge, including MIG, TIG and CO₂ welding.
  • Strong understanding of fabrication and assembly processes.
  • Spray painting experience or exposure.
  • Solid production planning and expediting skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
  • Strong people management and leadership skills.
  • Hands-on, lead-from-the-front attitude.
  • Old-school work ethic with modern efficiency thinking.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Plan, schedule and manage daily production to meet deadlines and quality standards.
  • Lead and supervise workshop staff across cutting, bending, welding and assembly.
  • Drive production planning, expediting and workflow optimisation.
  • Ensure efficient use of materials, labour and machinery.
  • Monitor output, resolve bottlenecks and keep production moving.
  • Enforce quality control, safety standards and housekeeping with a 5S mindset.
  • Liaise with procurement, stores and management to align production priorities.
  • Provide hands-on problem solving on the shop floor when production issues arise.
