East Rand Gauteng Permanent Market Related Steel Service Centre

Overview

Our client, a well-established steel service centre on the East Rand, is looking for an experienced Materials Planner to join their planning department.

The ideal candidate must have strong planning and material control experience, with a good understanding of steel coil processing, including cut-to-length, slitting, blanking, de-coiling, re-coiling and guillotining. This role requires someone who is mathematically inclined, accurate and able to plan material usage efficiently while taking wastage, edge trim and yield into account.

Ideal profile:

An accurate and detail-driven Materials Planner with steel service centre or coil processing exposure, strong Excel/Syspro skills, and the ability to calculate yield, edge trim, wastage and material optimisation from coil.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in materials planning, production planning or material control.
  • Experience within a steel service centre or coil processing environment would be highly advantageous.
  • Good understanding of steel coil processing, including cut-to-length, slitting, blanking, de-coiling and re-coiling.
  • Must understand material planning from coil, including yield, edge trim, wastage and optimisation.
  • Strong mathematical ability and attention to detail.
  • Computer literate with strong MS Excel skills.
  • Syspro experience would be advantageous.
  • Able to work accurately under pressure and meet production deadlines.
  • Good communication and coordination skills.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Plan material requirements for production based on customer orders and processing requirements.
  • Allocate and plan steel coil for cut-to-length, slitting, blanking, de-coiling, re-coiling and guillotining jobs.
  • Calculate material usage, edge trim, wastage and yield to ensure efficient coil utilisation.
  • Liaise with production, sales and warehouse teams to ensure material availability and smooth workflow.
  • Monitor stock levels and assist with material control.
  • Ensure planning is accurate and aligned with production schedules.
  • Assist with reducing wastage and improving material optimisation.
  • Maintain accurate planning records and reports.
