Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Fabrication Manager to take full responsibility for the day-to-day management of a busy fabrication department in Roodepoort.
The successful candidate will oversee production, staff, machinery, quality and workflow across multiple CNC and cutting disciplines, ensuring efficiency, accuracy and delivery deadlines are consistently met.
Ideal profile:
A hands-on Fabrication / Workshop Manager with Red Seal Boilermaker qualification, strong steel service centre experience, excellent people management ability and proven exposure to laser, plasma, water jet, flame cutting, guillotine cutting, CNC bending, CNC rolling and CNC machining.
Minimum Requirements
- 10 or more years’ experience as a Fabrication Manager or Workshop Manager.
- Red Seal Trade Tested as a Boilermaker.
- Solid experience in a fabrication or steel service centre environment.
- Strong people management and leadership skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
- Excellent planning, problem-solving and organisational skills.
- High attention to detail and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Manage the entire fabrication department, including production planning, workflow and staff supervision.
- Lead, mentor and discipline fabrication teams of 50+ staff to achieve production targets.
- Oversee machine utilisation, job scheduling and capacity planning.
- Ensure quality control standards and tolerances are maintained across all processes.
- Coordinate maintenance schedules to minimise downtime.
- Enforce health and safety compliance within the workshop.
- Work closely with management, estimating and sales to ensure smooth job execution.
Technical Experience Required
Proven hands-on and management experience with the following fabrication and steel processing equipment is required:
- Laser cutting.
- High-definition plasma cutting.
- Water jet cutting.
- CNC flame cutting.
- NC guillotine cutting.
- CNC bending.
- CNC rolling.
- CNC machining.
